Eucharistic Adoration

I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh. [John 6:51]

Eucharistic Adoration is the Catholic practice of spending time in prayer and quiet contemplation before the consecrated host, known as the Blessed Sacrament, which is the true presence of Jesus Christ. During adoration, the consecrated host is displayed in a monstrance on the altar, allowing the faithful to privately pray, meditate, or read scripture in Jesus’ company. This devotional practice aims to foster a more profound relationship with God and draw strength from his presence.

The ICSP Catholic Communities offer Eucharistic Adoration multiple times a month, including:

  • 1st Fridays at Immaculate Conception Church
  • 3rd Thursdays at St. Patrick Church
  • 3rd Wednesday Evenings with Catholic Formation at Immaculate Conception Church

* Please see the calendar for up-to-date adoration locations and times.

If you’ve been looking for a quiet place, a space to simply be with God, consider dedicating some time to Eucharistic Adoration.

THINGS TO DO DURING EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

Eucharistic adoration is the act of worshipping God as He is present in the consecrated Eucharist. Spending time before the Blessed Sacrament, in prayer and devotion, is the same as spending time before the living God. Fr. Benedict Groeschel points out in “In the Presence of Our Lord: The History, Theology, and Psychology of Eucharistic Devotion” that there are ‘four kinds of prayer most appropriate in the presence of the Eucharist, namely adoration and praise, thanksgiving, repentance, and trusting intercession.’ Here are suggestions for what to do during private Eucharistic adoration.

PRAY THE PSALMS OR THE LITURGY OF THE HOURS

RECITE THE “JESUS PRAYER”

MEDITATE USING SCRIPTURE

READ THE LIFE OF A SAINT AND PRAY WITH HIM OR HER

POUR OUT YOUR HEART TO CHRIST AND ADORE HIM

ASK FOR FORGIVENESS AND INTERCEDE FOR OTHERS

PRAY THE ROSARY

SIT QUIETLY AND JUST “BE” IN THE PRESENCE OF GOD
